GNO is a three piece band that hails from an old mill town in eastern Connecticut. The music they write and perform is all original and crafted to embrace their compulsive need to express progressive ideas through the medium of sound. Their approach is mindful and meaningful, lending an interesting depth and provaclivity to their compositions. Lyrically, GNO explores love, spirituality, politics, religion, etc., from an existential perspective, in poetic story telling. Throughout, there are sardonic threads of humor that enable them to remain sane. Musically they strive to express the full emotional spectrum from the most beautific to the most terrifying of human experiences. They seek to reach the broader audience up front and play passages that go over their heads in order to reach that one guy standing in the back. Genre? GNO has been referred to as progressive rock, progressive folk, space rock, and heavy metal, which they surmise is a result of the individual’s personal orientation. Being perpetually on the creative fringe, they prefer the term ‘alien edge’. They have been compared to King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull (huh?), Hendrix, Alan Holdsworth, The Police, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Steve Vai, Satriani, Led Zepplin……it seems the longer they stay together the longer the list gets. After five years together and a fourth CD in the works, GNO can comfortably play an evening of ballads or hard driving rock, pulling not only from their own unique work, but also from Ludent’s archive going back to the original Anglions. GNO’s line up includes Ludent Tremmel on guitar and lead vocals in the impressive company of Tony Castellano on bass and Chris Angelleti on percussion. Tony Castellano is an internationally recognized progressive rock musician and composer with an excellent personal archive of published work to his credit. His career has included performing and recording with Holding Pattern and The Bud Collins Trio. Tony is a multi-instrumentalist as well as a highly skilled studio master. Chris Angelleti is a hyper kinetic drummer who appears to thrive on innovation and risk, much like a young Bill Bruford. He was the percussionist for Karma (awarded ‘best Fusion Band’ by The Hartford Advocate). His skill is well represented on Gno’s 'Brain Spank' CD. Although you wouldn’t know it by talking to him, Chris is regarded as the best drummer in the state, and he’s only in his twenties!
